A contingent of Mana archers headed up to share the madness that is the National Indoor Championships in Palmerston North this past weekend.
Being my first indoor nationals, I wasn’t sure what to expect other than a big venue and a lot of archers (over 200 were expected). What I found was that despite the size of the event, there was always a Mana shirt around supporting and cheering us on. I always had a helping hand to get me to the right target at the right time (thanks Soph!) and I met some really cool people from other clubs. Despite being one of the top events on the archery calendar, most people were there not just to try and win, but to have a good time doing so. I got to share my target with some of those awesome people and had a blast with heaps of banter and not a single bit of negativity. At another time, in the midst of the match play, rumour has it you could hear 3 of us at the barebow end of the line singing Parklife under our breaths while at full draw. I don’t think that would have gone down quite so well at the compound end.
To summarise, the tournament was great fun, but made so by the people. Mana has some awesome archers that are some of the most supportive team mates you can ask for. Big thanks to Karen, Emma, Soph, Russell, Sue, Albertus, Jacqui, Charlie, Bruce. Looking forward to the next time we team up. But also to the support crew of Emily, Janita, Chris, Zoe, Scott and Robbie. Your help before and during the tournament was extremely appreciated!
